Who The Hell Made You The Boss?
What a slow weekend. To start it off, I didn't do anything yesterday. I played through Emerald some more and leveled up a lot of my guys, I washed my clothes, watched TV, and took a shower. I probably should used my time a lot better like study for my Latin 4 Final tomorrow or my AP Statistics on Tuesday. However, my AP Statistics test doesn't really count for anything except to see what classes I'll be able to take during my college years. I also get out having to take the Statistics Final, which is a plus. My Latin Final...well, it'll be a tough one most likely. I need to review a few stories we read from Ovid and that's about all I can really do. Half of the test is review and the other half is new translation (we get to translate a story we've never seen). Oh well. I'm confident I'll be fine. I got a B- first semester, which was just amazing. This was an easier semester so I'm hoping I get at least another B-.

Let's stride away from my upcoming tests for a moment. Yesterday I mostly wasted time because I was invited to a birthday party of one of my friends. I wouldn't have gone, but Peter was also invited so I decided to tag along with him. I suppose I should have figured out what kind of party it was going to be since Cinco de Mayo was on the same damn day. I also should have thought harder about who was going to show up. But I didn't.

The bottom line is pretty much everyone there was in the act of getting drunk, already drunk, or even more intoxicated. There were a few people though that I was pleased with who weren't participating in such activities, but it was only like 4 other guys besides Peter and me. We mostly played Guitar Hero II and Wii Sports while everyone else was too drunk to stand. So many people showed up and left, we lost count. Someone threw up in the guest bedroom and there were cans all over the place in there. The birthday guy got rather drunk too and because of it was too drunk to real think straight. Anyways, it ended with Peter and I just stealing back Peter's guitar controller and running back to his house. We played through a few songs in GH II and then I went home.

So, I'm just curious here. Do all parties these days have to include drinking of some kind? It was a lame party. People just sat around talking and drinking and only the few sober people were playing Guitar Hero and on the Wii. Pathetic. If this is what people tell me I've been missing at these "awesome" parties, it's so damn pathetic. Peter and I were talking about it on the way back to his house. The kid's mom came down at one point and she couldn't really do anything (or rather she didn't try). I'm sure she saw all the alcohol because you couldn't really miss all the damn cans, cups, and bottles.

I just don't get it. Drinking to the point where you don't understand what's going on, you trip over yourself, your speech is slurred, you reek of alcohol, your body forces you to throw up because you're harming it, looking like a complete fool in front of your friends...whatever. I rather just be "boring" and play a round of Guitar Hero with my friends.

It sounds like these kids have bought into the illusions that one has to get drunk to have a good time at parties. It's okay to have drinking there if you're old enough and do it in moderation, but getting blasted like that at an early age when you have no clue what your limit is is rather retarded.

No, most knew what their limit was. In fact, they talked about it as they drank. That was the disturbing part. Lots of them were telling the birthday guy to take it easy since it was his first time, but he didn't listen. He was pretty much down in an hour.

See, that's what I mean by going in moderation. You drink with buddies to hang out with them, not to see who passes out first.

Again I didn't intend to say that he passed out, but he was slurring his speech and just really out of it. Like when a girl threw up and everyone told him, he could only say, "Uh...are you kidding me?" I guess I also don't see why hanging out has to include drinking either.

Well I said it like that as reference to these people at the party you went to. I didn't mean to intend that people have to drink at parties. ^^;;

I know you didn't intend it that way, but I was just stating it in general. Since some people think that way, ya know.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I <3 you for this entry. Honestly.

I'm not entirely sure what's so cool about all of this either. I mean I know that it feels "good" to get drunk & stuff but when you think about it, it really does hurt you more than anything else. I guess it's just the "cool" thing to do these days and most people are happy being sheep and following the crowd than thinking for themselves and making good decisions. & I guess I shouldn't be lecturing cuz I did used to drink, but never at parties or around ppl in general, you know? You're right. It is pathetic that some people need to get drunk to have a good time. What does that say about their personalities? And you know what I can't stand? Guys that have to get drunk just to approach girls. To me that says that they have zero self-confidence & that they need the alcohol to talk for them since there is obviously not enough going on inside their heads for them to think of something somewhat intelligent to say on their own.

...*climbs down off of soapbox*

but yes. I'm sorry about your bad experience & I'm proud of you for the way you handled it.

I wouldn't call it a bad experience, but it was interesting. Only the second party I've ever really gone to and it involved people drinking again. Doubt I'll go to any other ones.

Thanks a lot though. Be proud not only for me, but for everyone else who goes to these parties and chooses not to drink. Those guys have to put up with it more than I do.

I am proud of them then, too. I'm glad that you & I both have friends that don't do this kind of stuff so that we have people to hang with and be ourselves.

I realize this is several days after the fact, but well done, my friend. It may get some of your friends pissed off, but I hope you continue to feel the way you do on the issue.

I've had a few drinks and I honestly don't see what the attraction is, either. Bars are loud, filled with some of the most vile looking and smelling people you'll ever meet, but apparently going "bar-hopping" is the hip thing to do? *shaking head* What? Who made that the distinction? XD

I've found that while it may have killed my social experiences, my choice(s) not to drink have probably told my friends more about me than anything else we've done; they're very informing as to what kind of person you are, and what it takes to get you into a good mood.

Anyway, point is---I'm glad you held your ground, bud. ^.^
